If you have a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, your plan must mail you an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) every fall. It lists what changes on January 1, 2027. Read it before October 15, because that is when you can start switching plans.
Didn't get one? Call the member services number on the back of your plan ID card.
The basics
Medicare plans can change their costs and coverage every year. The ANOC is the letter your plan sends to tell you exactly what is changing. It's usually a few pages long, and it comes with or just before the plan's full Evidence of Coverage.
Interactive checklist
Keep your ANOC letter next to you and tick each item as you check it. When you're done, you'll know whether to keep your plan or compare other plans.
No changes that hurt you? You can keep your plan. You don't have to do anything, and it renews on January 1.
Something got worse? Compare 2027 plans between October 15 and December 7. Plan details for 2027 usually become available to compare in early October.

Watch for these
Any one of these is a good reason to compare plans during Annual Enrollment. It doesn't mean you must switch. It means you should check whether another plan fits you better.
If it's no longer on the formulary, your cost could jump to full retail price.
In an HMO, out-of-network visits usually aren't covered except in emergencies.
Add up premiums plus your usual copays to see what the year will really cost.
If your plan is leaving your area, you'll get a non-renewal notice. That notice gives you a Special Enrollment Period to choose a new plan.
Key dates
Put these dates on your calendar. Once December 7 passes, your choices for 2027 become much more limited.
